Help the World go 100% Green Electic - World Changing Me Quest

100% Green Electric

Your Quest (should you choose to accept it) is to

Level 1: #Switch
1

#Switch your home electricity tariff to one that is supplied by purely renewable electricity generation.

By renewable we mean electricity from solar, wind, hydro, geothermal or biogas.

Worried about cost? It may not even increase your electricity bill at all (especially if you haven't switched in a while). At the very least have a good look around at what is on offer.

Already on a green tariff? Great! Encourage somewhere else to #switch too. Your family, neighbours, school, workplace, club?

Level 2: #Reduce #Recharge #Recycle
2

#Reduce #Recharge or #Recycle (we're talking batteries).

The aim here is #reduce your reliance on non rechargeable batteries. Do this by not purchasing any new products that contain batteries that can't be recharged. Do some research on what kind of batteries that new product uses before you buy and if a greener alternative out there*.

It uses rechargeable batteries! Great. Go ahead and #recharge them. If you have some rubblish non-rechargeable batteries, don't trash them, #Recycle them**.

Level 3: #Help
3

#Help a local community renewable energy project. What you choose to do will very much depend on how much time you have, your skills and what stage the project is at. #tag us (and them) when you've found one.

Help? Yes, it could just be that you follow them on facebook and share posts. Or perhaps you dive right in and become Chair of the Board, or perhaps do something in between ...

Community energy projects are a great way to help your area become energy resilient. The profits can also be put back into other community initiatives! Go search it up now.

UK energy source trends are getting better! Towards the end of 2019 in the UK we produced (slightly) more electricity from renewable energy sources than we did from gas for the first time ever (for a little while at least). Which is a pretty good thing. Check out the gov.uk National Statistics reports on Energy Trends for more info.

However, there is much more to do. Together we can can really speed up our journey to renewables. As with all massive changes in society, a big part of it is us telling companies (and the government) that this is something we want. They need to know there is demand for action.

If the product is a gift, check that the recipient has the necessary gear to recharge the batteries. If they don't perhaps include a recharger as part of the present? or reconsider your gift giving options.
Putting spent batteries in the landfill bin isn't an option - it's just so easy to recycle batteries now. Your local supermarket usually has a special recycling bin for them (inside the shop)
